Hello!

My name is Keertana S. Kakkanat, and I am a passionate educator

with over 12 years of experience teaching children from Kindergarten to Grade 8.

My goal is to create environments where every child feels nurtured and supported to thrive, grow, and reach their full, unique potential.

My Story

I have taught English, Science, Social Sciences, and Mathematics from Kindergarten to Grade 8. My passion lies in creatively interweaving various subject streams and practising child-centric, project-based and experiential learning to make learning meaningful, joyful and inspiring for children. I have worked extensively with IB, CIE, and ICSE schools, designing and implementing alternative curricula, pedagogies, and assessment practices. As a result, I have developed various educational models that integrate these methodologies into mainstream education.

In addition to teaching, I specialise in Teacher Professional Developmentmentoring and training teachers to enhance their skills and improve teaching practices, with a focus on building capacity for reflective practice. I also provide strategic consulting on holistic and systemic school development, helping institutions design and implement transformation programmes that enable meaningful and sustainable growth, aligned with their educational aims, in collaboration with all the stakeholders involved.

I hold a Diploma in Elementary Education, a Bachelor's (major) degree in Psychology, and a Master's in Education from the Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Mumbai. Presently, I am pursuing a hybrid Postgraduate program in Educational Assessment at Azim Premji University, further enhancing my expertise in this field.

As a co-founder and director of Peraivu Koodam Centre for Policy Research and Action—a think-tank and research consultancy—I focus on critically examining state education policies and providing realistic, action-oriented solutions for equitable implementation and progress. Additionally, I have contributed to educational research, including evaluating the implementation of the 12(1)(c) provision of the Right to Education Act in Tamil Nadu; co-leading an ICMR multi-site study examining the feasibility of locally adapted, community-delivered life skills training to improve the mental well-being of indigenous adolescents in the Nilgiris; and leading a study on the conceptualisation of 'quality in education' by an educational system, exploring theoretical foundations and stakeholder perceptions in Gudalur Educational District, TN.

I specialise in designing robust mixed-method and action research methodologies that integrate both quantitative and qualitative approaches to generate comprehensive, meaningful insights. I also contribute to academic discourse by authoring papers and providing editorial support for educational journals and books. Currently, I am working on a book focused on teaching and learning resources in school education, aimed at providing practical strategies and insights for educators and institutions. I aspire to bridge the gap between academia and educational praxis by integrating transdisciplinary research with real-world educational practices.

As an educator and consultant, I collaborate with children, teachers, schools, and educational models to develop balanced, transformative, and self-sustaining educational practices and systems through a contextualised, holistic approach.
